Smart Concrete

This project entitled, “Engineered smart concrete utilizing indigenous wastes for durable and intelligent infrastructure” is a two-year DOST-PCIEERD funded project, which started on August 2, 2021. Implemented under the CGNIES and in partnership with Riezl Landcare & Construction and DPWH-BRS, the study integrates indigenous wastes such as Durian rinds, Coconut husks, Banana pseudostems, and Papaya basts, and their derived nano-carbonaceous materials to promote durability and provide conductivity for the fabrication of intelligent material. These indigenous wastes are processed to form nanostructural carbonaceous materials (NCM) and enhanced fibers that will be used to prepare self-sensing and self-healing composites for engineered smart concrete.
